Halloween Costume – Sugar Skull

13 Oct

With Halloween approaching, it’s time to start preparing for the fun festivities that are celebrated on this spooktacular holiday. Nowadays, Halloween costumes can cost a pretty penny, so we’ve decided to create costumes that are heavily makeup based. You don’t have to buy a lot of items or products, and these fantastic looks will surely be a hit at any party.

Last week we featured a how-to on creating a comic book character look. Today we’re heading in a different direction, creating a costume that is eerily gorgeous and a popular image among Hispanic and Latin American cultures. The look we’ve created was inspired by the sugar skull, which represents the soul of a departed loved one on Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. This Halloween look is beautiful and easy to accomplish if you follow the steps below.

Step 1) Using a white eyeliner pencil, line around the areas of the face you intend to add color too. Try Revlon.

Step 2) Using a foundation brush and a cream white foundation, create a smooth base over entire face. We used Celebre professional.

Step 3) For the eyes, fill in the area from eyebrow to just underneath the bottom lash line using a jumbo blue pencil. We used NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Electric Blue.

Step 4) Draw circles around the eyes and create small petals using a black eyeliner pencil. We used Sephora Glitter eye pencil in Black Electric.  Fill in the petals using a red lipstick and lipstick brush.

Step 5) To create the spider web, take a ruler and draw a line starting in the center of the forehead. Draw four more lines, using the ruler, and connect to create a web look. Blend center lines with small brush to soften the look.

Step 6) Use black eyeliner to create the spider and fill in the bottom of nose, creating a clover like design.

Step 7) Draw two black lines starting at the corner of the mouth and drawing out to the jaw bone. Fill in lips with red lipstick. We used Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Temptation. Then using a black eyeliner pencil, create short evenly spaced lines across the lines and mouth.

Step 8 ) Create a small flower on the chin using the same blue eyeliner for the center and the red lipstick for the petals. Finish the look with a pair of sparkly false eyelashes and a red rose.

We hope you enjoy this cool Halloween look. Leave a comment and let us know!
