St. Patrick’s Day Eyeshadow Look

14 Mar

We loved the eye look we created for Saint Patrick’s Day last year so much we decided to share it with you again this year!

With St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, we’ve decided to embrace our green side and create a makeup look for the celebration that is fun and fabulous. We love themed holidays, a day where we can dress up and have a good time, and this makeup look is perfect to accent any green outfit.

The Steps

1. Apply shimmery white eyeshadow to your entire eyelid. We love Polyester Bride by Urban Decay.

2. Brush on gold shimmery eyeshadow from your lash line to your crease. Draw a thin line using the same eyeshadow along your bottom lash line. We love Golden Crown by M.A.C.

3. Using an eyeshadow brush, apply an emerald green eyeshadow, sweeping the color onto your eyelid, continuing past the outer corner of your eye, towards your eyebrow. We love Swimming by M.A.C.

4. Use the same emerald green eyeshadow and draw a thick line under your eye, from the center to the outer edge.

5. Apply glittery false eyelashes to your upper lash line and then line over the lashes with black eyeliner. We love Guilty Pleasure by NYX and Liquid Eye Liner by M.A.C.

6. Apply clover-shaped gemstone stickers and small silver stone stickers around the outer corner of your eyes. You can purchase these from any craft store.

Halloween Costume – 1950s Zombie Housewife

27 Oct

Since the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, zombies have been a pop culture staple. Recently Zombies have made a comeback with the TV series, The Walking Dead, movies like Dawn of the Dead, and even popular novels are receiving a zombie upgrade like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Creating a Zombie look is surprisingly easy and doesn’t require a lot of makeup, but to put our own spin on the deadtastic Halloween costume, our zombie look is a 1950s housewife, complete with pearls and an apron. So, if you’re feeling like taking a bite out of Halloween, try this Zombie look.

Step 1- Using your finger, sponge, or a makeup brush, evenly apply white makeup paint to your entire face. For a full zombie effect, blend down your neck as well.

Step 2- Apply black makeup paint to the entire eye area, from your eyebrow to your eyelid, and also under your eyes. Smudge the paint around the edges to blend it.

Step 3- Blend black makeup paint into the hollows of your cheekbones. It is easiest to apply paint if you suck in your cheeks.

Step 4- Smudge black makeup paint above the outer corners of your eyebrows on your forehead and into your hairline. This will give your face a bruised look.

Step 5- Using a Q-tip, draw squiggly lines in blue makeup paint around your forehead, eyes, and lips to give the appearance of veins.

Step 6 – Liberally apply fake blood around your mouth and chin. You can also go down your neck for a more gruesome look.

What kind of zombie would you be? Leave us a comment and let us know!

A Night Out Makeup Look

28 Jul

With dark eyeshadow being a popular choice for a night out, we’ve decided to play off the smoky eye look by highlighting it with pops of color in this fun, vibrant look. Able to accentuate any outfit, from jeans and a t-shirt to a little black dress, this look is versatile and seductive, and a sure way to catch attention even in low-lit settings.

Follow these easy steps to accomplish this look:

Step One: Apply an eyeshadow primer, like Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Next, use an eyeshadow brush and dust on a shimmery golden eyeshadow, from lash line to eyebrow. We love Blunt by Urban Decay.

Step Two: Brush on pink eyeshadow from the inner corner of your eye to the middle of your lid, and then brush purple shadow along your crease, winging it past the outer corner of your eye. We love Christian Dior’s 5-Colour Eyeshadow – Extase Pinks 804 and Urban Decay’s Asphyxia.

Step Three: Starting in the middle of your lid, brush on black eyeshadow. You can use a piece of paper or tape on the outer corner of your eye as a guiding line, pointing the wing. We used the black shadow from the Dior palette mentioned in step two.

Step Four: Line your lower lash line in turquoise eyeliner like Make Up For Ever’s Blue With Green Highlights 12L.

Step Five: Brush on the same pink eyeshadow from step two on the inner corner of your eye and into the turquoise liner.

Step Six: Line false eyelashes with a thin line of glue and press firmly onto your lash line. Use a Q-Tip to adjust them as close to your lashes as possible. We love Make Up For Ever’s 22 Gianna.

Waxing Tips

26 Jul

As the temperature outside skyrockets, more and more time is being spent in those itsy bitsy bikinis. Whether lying out on the beach or lounging poolside, every girl wants to look her best. Waxing has always been a tried and true method of keeping your skin smooth, which lasts longer then shaving, but comes with a price. After all the pain and money spent on your routine, it’s important to keep up maintenance in-between sessions.  We’ve put together some simple, at-home tips just about anyone can do and afford.

Right Before Your Wax Session

When it comes to waxing, the easier the job is for your esthetician, the easier it is for you. Before you get to your appointment take a warm/hot shower and exfoliate to get the pores open. Scrubbing off old skin cells beforehand will ultimately give you better results. The warm water from the shower softens hair down to the follicle so that it comes off easier.

Right After Your Wax Session

The first few times waxing are the hardest to get through, but don’t worry, it does get easier. Alleviate the burning sensation afterwards by applying a thin layer of Neosporin over the area and let it absorb for at least 10 minutes. Applying right before bed is also a great way to ensure smooth, healthy skin.  Bikini Zone is a great product to keep skin irritation at bay; it’s medicated and designed specifically for the bikini line area. This product can be a little harsh on skin so we recommend using it the day after your session or at least until redness and soreness has gone away.

Exfoliate

The most important thing to remember in between waxing, or even shaving, is to exfoliate. Body scrubs with a coarse or sandy texture work great for this. Baking soda is also a great exfoliator and extremely affordable since the average price of a box is under a dollar. When in the shower, before shaving, just pour some baking soda in your hand and rub over the desired area. Exfoliating scrubs remove dead skin cells and allow the newly growing hair to grow in properly, reducing the chances of ingrown hairs and irritation.

Timing

Plan to get waxed at least a day or two before being in a bathing suit. This will give your skin time to relax and heal. Avoid working out the day of the waxing session as well, the friction will only exacerbate already tender skin. Sweat also clogs pores, which cause ingrown hairs that not only look unpleasant, but hurt and can become infected.

Treating Ingrown Hairs

Try as you might, ingrown hairs can still pop up. The best way to send these eyesores packing is by cleaning the area with rubbing alcohol and applying Neosporin regularly. Covering the area with a band-aid will protect your clothing from staining and keep the Neosporin where it should be. If the ingrown hair becomes really infected and painful see your doctor, don’t let the infection get out of control.

Emma Watson’s Beauty Evolution

14 Jul

In honor of the epic finale of the “Harry Potter” series, and our admiration of the magnificent actress Emma Watson and her character “Hermione Granger,” we have followed her evolution from young pre-teen sweetheart into sexy fashionista to provide you with insight into her new look and transformation.

Emma Watson began her career in acting by performing in local theater groups and taking on new challenges in the acting world at a very young age. Emma portrayed the smart and fiery “Hermione Granger” in the “Harry Potter” movies, developing a character that audiences couldn’t help but fall in love with. Throughout her role in the “Harry Potter” series, Emma has grown with her character and thrived in her career.

Her drastic transformation from sweet preteen to stylish young adult has landed her on the cover of Vogue and Harpers Bazaar UK magazine, along with others. She has become the fresh face of Lancome Paris and Burberry, and also worked with clothing company People Tree to create a new spring/summer line inspired by her personal style. Emma’s beauty evolution has transformed her into a sophisticated style icon, and to honor the final installment of the “Harry Potter” phenomenon, here are some steps to achieve both her young, natural look and new, edgy style-looks that us muggle born, who can’t make it magically appear, can master.

The Natural Look:

As the “Harry Potter” series took off, Emma Watson began her role as the young, strong-minded “Hermione Granger.” Her look was simple and sweet with a classic base consisting of natural foundation and powder, along with a hint of mascara to open up her eyes,  which finished off a simple look that emphasized her, natural girlish beauty.

The Budding Fashionista Look:

We’ve seen Emma grow in to a young woman over her years in “Harry Potter”; this budding fashionista look incorporates her youthful teenage style, which builds on her classic natural look. As she transformed into a full fledged teen, Emma began using eyeliner along with mascara, a contour of rosy cheeks, highlighted brows, and sparkling nude lips to show off her feminine beauty.

The Red Carpet Look:

Now a successful 21 year old actress and model, Emma has become a fashion icon and beauty sensation. As the movie series comes to an end, we recognize the confident young women Emma Watson has become and the conclusion of her role as “Hermione Granger.” She has evolved into a sexy, stylish fashionista with bold makeup and elegant fashion sense. Her new red carpet look consists of a dark smoky eye with pops of gold, dark tinted eyebrows, and pale pink lip gloss.  The dramatic eyes compliment the woman she has become and her growing career.
