Makeup Primers

27 Sep

Primers might be the hardest working cosmetics available. A primer, in the simplest definition, prepares or primes the surface of skin for the best possible makeup application. Perhaps the most popular type of primer, and the most necessary, is the facial primer. A facial primer is applied after moisturizer. It creates a barrier between pores and foundation, preventing it from sinking into pores throughout the day, and decreasing the amount of touch ups needed. Facial primer also reduces the size of your pores and creates an even surface for makeup application, thus enhancing the look of your foundation. As simple as primers may seem there are a lot of different primers available today, and all with different claims. Below we’ve listed the primers we’ve tried and loved.

Makeup Forever HD Microperfecting Primer

These oil-free facial primers come in six shades designed for color correction with one transparent one.The formula is light and absorbs into skin easily. These are an ideal pick for someone who suffers from Rosacea or has yellow undertones in skin which can alter the color of your makeup, making it appear uneven.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

This is one of the most well-known foundation primers, and it’s not without merit. This primer is simple, affordable, and it works. This primer has the ability to both shrink pores and create a matte look to skin, a great buy for someone with oily skin. New formulas with SPF and color corrections have come out, but we keep going back to the original.

Josie Maran Argan Primer Mist

We recently sang the praises of Argan Oil for your hair, but this product proves it’s a multifunctional ingredient. This mist provides the benefits of primer, but also works to improve your skin. The formula is free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs, and triclosan.

L’Or Radiance Concentrate with Pure Gold Base

This is the priciest option of the bunch, but its well worth it. This radiance boosting concentrate actually contains real flecks of gold. In addition to the benefits of a primer, it has a gel-like consistency that sinks into skin to retain moisture, and actually tightens facial features.

The new Mary Kay foundation primer is absolutely wonderful! I have oily skin and when I use this prior to applying my foundation (Mary Kay Mattewear), my skin not only looks flawless, it also stays fresh.
