Scentsa Punch

5 Apr

We’ve recently watched the movie “Sucker Punch,” and let’s just say that we absolutely loved it. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s about five girls’ fight for freedom from a mental institution, while one waits for a lobotomy, which all takes place in three different realities. If you love steampunk, the effects are amazing with steam and clockwork robots, dragons, WWII references, and of course, kickbutt, armed girls with fight scenes that make us want to learn some of the crazy moves ourselves.

Besides the edge-of-your-seat explosions, awesome weaponry, and heart pumping battle scenes, the characters in the movie — Baby Doll, Sweet Pea, Rocket, Amber, Blondie, and Madam Gorski — were painted in beautiful, awe-inspiring makeup that we’ve decided to interpret. So, look sexy and powerful with our own rendition of “Sucker Punch,” a makeup look we’ve deemed Scentsa Punch.

“Sucker Punch” revolves around Baby Doll, played by Emily Browning, also known for her roles in “The Uninvited” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.” Baby Doll is a girl determined to escape the life she was thrown into by her evil step father, using her ultra-sexy, feminine allure to hypnotize the men holding her prisoner. Her look is school girl meets vixen, with dual ponytails and a sailor-esque costume with high heels and knee highs, and not to mention her array of guns and gleaming sword.

Her makeup look is all about a mask of innocence hiding a powerful woman, focusing on her bold eyelashes and rosy cheeks. To achieve this look we’ve titled “Doll Face,” follow the simple steps below.

Step 1: Using a small brush, apply a small amount of shimmery pink eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eye, stopping at the lash line. We love Esteé Lauder’s Pink Pearl.

Step 3: Brush a pale gold shimmer shadow across the remaining portion of your eye up to your brow bone. We love Esteé Lauder’s Ivory Lace.

Step 4: Take a shimmery black shadow and lightly brush the shadow along the crease of the eye and draw a delicate wing. Take a pair of false lashes, apply a thin line of glue, and press along your upper lash line. Coat the top and bottom lashes with black mascara. We love Lancôme’s Glamour Era and Définicils High Definition Mascara. Also, NYX’s Rock On.

Next up in our “Sucker Punch” inspired makeup looks is Sweet Pea, played by Abbie Cornish who you can also see in the movie “Limitless.” Sweet Pea is the cautious leader of the pack, a role model for the other girls, and would do anything for her sister, Rocket, which is the reason she wound up in the institution in the first place.

Sweet Pea’s look sassy and seductive, the perfect blend to match her protective older sister role in the movie, with bold fuchsia eyeshadow and nude lips. To achieve this look we’ve titled “Cupcake,” follow the simple steps below.

Step 1: Apply fuchsia eyeshadow from the lash line to your crease, using a sponge applicator. We love M.A.C’s Cranberry.

Step 2: Apply golden brown shimmery shadow from the middle of your eye to the edge, forming a wing that extends past your eyebrow. Brush a shimmery light gold shadow underneath your brow bone. We like Lorac’s Starry-Eyed trio.

Step 3: Using a black eyeliner pencil, rim the upper and bottom lash lines from corner to corner. Take a small makeup brush and draw a thin line of fuchsia shadow underneath the eye, smudging the black liner slightly. We like Buxom Insider Eyeliner. We like NYX’s Vinyl.

Step 4: Apply a thin layer of glue to false lashes and press along top lash line. Coat lashes in black mascara. We like Bare Escentuals Flawless Definition Mascara.

The next “Sucker Punch” look was inspired by Madam Gorski, played by Carla Gugino who has been in so many movies, such as “Night at the Museum,” “Race to Witch Mountain,” and “Watchmen” just to name a few. Madam Gorski, also known as Dr. Gorski, is the caretaker of the five girls, and stands up for them and keeps them as safe as she can on their journey to freedom. Her makeup look consisted of dark, charcoal lined eyes and glitter.

In our rendition, titled Madam Trixie, we’ve focused on lashes and smoky eyes, creating a confident, sultry look. To achieve this look, follow the simple steps below.

Step 1: Using a small angled brush, apply a white shimmery eyeshadow from your lash line to the outer corner of your eye, forming a wing. Apply a copper satin shadow from the corner of your eye to the brow bone. We love Make Up For Ever’s Diamond White and Rust Orange.

Step 2: Using an angled brush, apply a dark, shimmery black shadow from the middle of the eye to the outer wing. We like Make Up For Ever’s Diamond Black.

Step 3: Using a small brush, draw a small line of copper shadow along your lower lash line, stopping in the middle of the eye. Draw a small line of black shadow along the bottom lash line from the middle to the edge, smudge slightly. Line your inner lower lash line with black eyeliner. We love Buxom Insider Eyeliner.

Step 4: Apply a thin layer of glue to false lashes and press along top lash line. Coat lashes in black mascara. We love Make Up For Ever’s Carolyn False Lashes.

What do you think about these fierce, bold makeup looks? What would be your “Sucker Punch” name? Stay tuned for our next blog, which will feature Amber and Blondie.

WOW! I love all three looks! I really can’t decide which one I like the most! I’m a mascara and blush type of girl because I don’t really know how to apply all these fancy colors in such a way– in the tiniest of all spaces!!! Thanks Scentsa for holding my hand through something I’ve always been too afraid to try! This blog is great, and I can’t wait to see some more!!
